I know you've seen them....in decor magazines, all over instagram....those beautiful farmhouse style kitchens. They make shabby look so chic, and the simple life look oh-so-heavenly. But what if a full kitchen remodel just isn't in the budget at the moment? No problem! Just follow our 4 quick tips to getting farmhouse style for under $500!
1. Take a look at your cabinets. Your cabinets are one of the largest items in your kitchen, and they can have the biggest impact on your kitchen's style. Do you like the shape? Are they in good condition and able to be refinished? Perhaps consider refinishing them or painting them that classic farmhouse white that is so trendy these days. Rustoleum also makes a great product that allows you to refinish your cabinets WITHOUT any sanding. We did this in our kitchen and it turned out beautifully!
2. Add a new backsplash! As much as designers often groan when they hear the words Subway Tile - it's SO in right now! Putting in a DIY backsplash is actually super easy, and not as expensive as you might think. Also, many home improvement stores offer tile classes for free (yes, FREE!), so that you can get advice on how to finish your project.
3. Change out your lighting. Still rocking that 1980's chandelier? Find a rustic one at a black Friday sale, or pick something antique at a yard sale and add in a bit of farmhouse charm. Lighting is one of the simplest, easiest ways to change the style of a room dramatically.
4. Accessories - this one is my FAVORITE! I understand that accessories can mean 1,000 different things, depending on your individual kitchen, but take a look around and take note of areas where you could add in some charm. For example - swapping out old table cloths for something in a linen or a denim, adding rustic canisters to corral your baking supplies, a new set of metal or wooden bar stools at your breakfast bar, or some antique cutting boards propped up beautifully against that new backsplash. Don't forget - you don't need to spend a lot of money to change the style of a room! Shop vintage, garage sales, and discount stores for farmhouse style on a budget!
